A Squeaky Voice From the Choir

Did Jeff Bridges just call Mark Udall a liberal without using the word? You be the judge, but we are going to count it.

Fourth, in case you've politely overlooked it, like I have, Bill Ritter is pro-life, pro-gun, and vetoed the best thing organized labor's passed out of the legislature in years. I'm quite happy Udall isn't as conservative, but I don't think the rest of Colorado shares that feeling.

And for the record, Bill Ritter isn't a conservative, and doesn't come close. He is the epitome of a well packaged liberal time bomb with a smile, a slogan, and a song.

That bomb will go off this upcoming year in the form of more taxes, a nanny state health care system that will cost billions, out of control lawyers, and, oh yes, he will sign a HB 1272 the second time around. Pro Gun? Not based on the bills he signed this year. Where are the shooting ranges he promised during the campaign?

If Ritter is the standard, and Udall is to the left of him, that makes Mark Udall left wing. We don't have that category, but we do have "reliably left wing."

The Mark Udall is not a moderate scoreboard:
Extremist 2
Reliably Left Wing 3
Liberal 12
Moderate 0
Conservative (Not Even Compared to Bill Ritter)
To check our methodology, follow the links from post to post. We only count msm and liberal blogs on this scoreboard.

Local Prognosticator Picks Udall

Liberal and Loving is certain that Mark Udall is a shoo in and says so.

So who loses? Bob Schaffer who is figured the least likely Repub to win in '08. The Repubs don't have the resources or money to fight everywhere. As of today they have probably already cut him lose in their minds.

While our friend at L&LI (and he is our friend) stopped short of calling for an end to contributions to Mark Udall's campaign, it seems obvious that he would like to see the funds go elsewhere.

We don't want him to read Jeff Bridges' comments as discussed by Ben DeGrow below.

Lefty Activist Breaks Rank, Sours on Glowing Projections of Udall Victory

Some thoughtful comments from a reliably liberal Colorado political activist named Jeff Bridges (no, not this guy) have challenged the conventional wisdom on the state's 2008 Senate race:
Pundits across the country have named Colorado's U.S. Senate seat the most likely to switch parties from Republican to Democrat in 2008. I'm not quite convinced.

Republican Sen. Wayne Allard is retiring, and folks in DC believe that five-term Congressman Mark Udall from Eldorado Springs will handily defeat his ultra-conservative opponent, former 4th District Congressman Bob Schaffer....

So they say in DC. I think they're wrong, and Udall's folks have a very nasty and very tough fight ahead of them....

Read the entire post to grasp the logic of his argument. Interestingly, the comments have stirred up efforts from within the "progressive" blogger community to stymie the dissent from their prevailing optimism about Boulder liberal Mark Udall's likely chances to win a statewide contest. (Skip down to the comment section of this diary.)

Bloggers at Schaffer v Udall have been hoping the Left would leave the rose-colored glasses on indefinitely, continuing to overestimate the strengths of their candidate and the weaknesses of ours (continuing to label Schaffer as "ultra-conservative" is one form of denial that's a sure sign of the writer's own leftward political leanings). Perhaps Mr. Bridges' contrarian insights will rouse his comrades into action. Then again, we hope they don't.
